Well----- How about the two Daves Dave Bartrum and Dave Pinkney have HISTORY - no not that sort of history, but one that takes them both back to the late eighties early nineties of saloon car racing in the UK.
Their paths first crossed as rivals in the 1988 Uniroyal saloon car championship both contesting 3 door Ford Cosworths. DP moved on to the BTCC in 1989 but they bumped into one another (not literally, thankfully) on track in 1990, in the well supported Esso Production Saloon Championship. Both now running Ford Sapphire Cosworths, DP in his now standard Pink livery, and DB running under the banner of The Dane Motor Co.(Dave's old company and the origin of the famous Scooby Doo mascot!)

1991 saw the both of them, now good friends, continue in the Esso Production Saloon Championship, very successfully sharing drives in the long distance races that were a feature of championship in those days. DP attempted an ambitious BTCC program in 1992, which unfortunately never came to fruition but he and DB joined forces twice in this year in the BRDC / BRSCC Saloon car championship long distance races, taking a memorable WIN at Donington and a fine second at a very wet Silverstone later in the year.
1993 saw DP in the BTCC in an ex works BMW 318is, but Mr Bartrum was never far away like when the car caught fire at Paddock Hill Bend (Brands Hatch) in testing on a Friday prior to the BTCC weekend. It was only due to DB's efforts and that of the team, a very long night saw the car make it out for qualifying.
1994,96 & 97 saw DP contesting the Vento VR6 challenge, taking 6 wins & 6 fastest laps in 1996. Mr Bartrum also dipped his toe into the Vento scene for a few select rounds, ability assisted by members of DP's team, under the name of "Deansport". In 1998 DB very successfully took part in the Ford Saloon car Championship in a 460 BHP Escort Cosworth, taking the Title with 11 race wins from 14 starts.
DP moved to the Vauxhall Vectra SR1 V6 Challenge in 1998, now in its second year, and had a less than memorable season in a car which was subsequently found to have a bent chassis. Mr Pinkney continued in the Vectra SR1 V6 Challenge in 1999 (now in a straight car!). Scoring 4 wins, 2 seconds and a third he took the title in a very exiting race at Silverstone on the 19th of September, in near dark conditions on a wet track he came from 8th on the grid up to second in a shortened race of eight laps. Perhaps his finest hour to date!
Neither of the Dave's raced in 2000, but both returned to the track in 2001, DB in selected rounds of the TVR Tuscan Championship, (his team now running the Britnall Bro's in TVR's) and DP in the very ambitious but, ill-fated JSM Alfa 147 in the BTCC.
In 2002 DB continued with his team in TVR's and again ran himself in selected rounds whilst DP took another year out to concentrate on his business activities. 2003 was the year that the two Daves found themselves back in the same arena, the new Porsche Carrera Cup GB with DP driving and DB team managing for the Britnall Bro's. DP had a good introductory year in the 996 taking a Pole and a Win at Thruxton, which wetted his appetite for more Porsches in 2004.
The plan for 2004 saw DP as team mate to Richard Westbrook at Beast Racing, unfortunately after a disastrous first two rounds Dave was left with a damaged car and blown up engine. Beast Racing folded and once again Mr Bartrum and the Motorbase Team were the obvious people to lend a hand and later that year with DB's assistance DP and the old Pinkney Motorsport team returned to the Porsche championship at Croft, qualifying 4th and taking 5th place in race one. DP then finished the season at the last Porsche round, now officially in the Motorbase Performance asylum. (Sorry TEAM)
DB and Motorbase Performance continued with Porsche 996's in 2005 competing in both the British GT championship and selected rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. DP took on the Seat Leon Cupra R Championship under the Motorbase Performance banner, the year however, did not bring the results hoped for and an engine failure at Croft bought the season to an early end. DP did have other outings in 2005 having a good run out in the British GT championship, partnering Phil Quaife in a Motorbase prepped. 996., another in the TAG HUGER 250 GT race, in support of the A1 GP race at Brands Hatch. There he took second in GT2 with Motorbase cars finishing 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th! The final outing was in the last round of Porsche Carrera Cup GB at which he finished 5th in race one, and was taken out of race two whilst in 4th place.
So as you see the two Daves have a long and interesting history, we will wait with interest to see the outcome of the 2006 chapter!
